Marukame Udon [Honolulu, Hawaii]
2310 Kuhio Ave #124
Honolulu, HI 96815
This little restaurant in Honolulu reminds me of a cafeteria. you form lines at the counter, you point to what you want, until you reach the checkout register, then grab your tray of food and head out looking for a table.
But this isn’t just any cafeteria. Marukame Udon is packed. The noodles are freshly made in house, quickly given a hot bath, and rolled into equal size portions by hand. There are a couple of options of Udon, my favorite is the Niku Udon, with sweet beef and caramelized onions. The Curry Udon was also a great choice.
On the appetizer side, the fried chicken was fried to a nice crisp, had a lot of flavor, and was not excessive oily. The shrimp tempura and others were just average. Overall this place is worth a go, the food is fresh, and the noodles are great.
However, with no or low A/C, and the doors closed. It makes eating hot soup noodles on a hot summer night really difficult to enjoy.
